I previously bought two kinds of brushes from Mackworth Vehicle Conversions. In 2015 a helpful chap called Simon said, I think, that I needed "SAS Components Ltd, 5009 Brush Box, replacement for Bosch 1194.336.001" and...

- I then picked up a TP62480691A (DD2 Modified TP Brush B) for £12.50 which did the trick and lasted 9 years!

- In 2021, again from Mackworth I bought two TP62480691AZ (XF2 Modified TP Brush B) at £15 each, but these do not seem right as the first one lasted only 1 year and the second only a couple of weeks. I think the brushes on these are just two short as they quickly begin to lose contact and leave black carbon on the edge of one of the brushes. Scrape off and refit and they may work for a short time.

I spoke to Macworth today about the TP62480691A and they say they are obsolete so I'm a bit stuck. Does anyone know the correct part and suitable sources? Web search is really awful these days and I'm struggling to find anything useful.

My Generator probably dates from 2005 and has the following markings on the generator itself (the control box is silver):
 Dometic 4???? 58-01
 Generator ??el Power
 230v/50Hz/3.5KW/10A
 S.nr: 08-2565

Ed Shiers and Cox auto electrics can both help. Note that the generator needs new bearings from time to time, especially the older Bosch style one (I think you have the newer one), when the bearings fail its an expensive repair. Mr Cox will do a full overhaul.

and if the brushes are Failing quickly are the slip rings ok ?

I remember spending a couple of hours in the Speedway Workshop at the Slovak track at Zarnovica, carefully filing some Avia light Commercial starter motor brushes-from a Chechoslovakian PAL starter- to fit the Lucas starter om my mates Transit. A successful job, no more need to 'bump start' it at the border checkpoints.

Generator brushes are normally softer and easier to work. Easy to carefully size and fit. Biggest problem is if the braided leads are too short-soldering them makes them stiff.

I haven't had to do it with an alternator, but when I couldn't find a source of brushes for an old electric lawnmower, I went to my local shop that does electrical  repairs (fortunately we still have one of this increasingly rare thing), where the guy found me some brushes for a Dyson with long  built-in copper braid tails that was larger in all dimensions, and I cut it down to size. The carbon was relatively soft, and I found it easy to rough cut using a junior hacksaw, before finishing to size by rubbing on a sheet  of 100 grit carborundum paper laid flat on a piece of melamine chipboard.

I spoke to Ed Shiers recently, unfortunately he is concentrating on his Li install work and doesn't do the Travelpowers any more. He recommended G E Middleton in Manchester
