Just had the CRT survey. Not sure why they want to know if I'm Trans?  does this help the canals?  They seem to want to know far more info on my preferences personally than is healthy....????!!!  :)

Presumably because they might have, legally, to adjust any facilities they offer although, as they're closing all the toilets and showers, I suspect this is a  carryover from an earlier survey design. Unfortunately, just because judges are weird and the law is an ass, big organisations have to follow them. Sensible people don't give a toss.

You don't have to tell them anything

Just what I was going to write. Ignore the survey if it asks impertinent questions.

It's also a tick in the "inclusivity" box. whether we like it or not, and we probably don't, it's what government bodies like to see to show your business is an all round good egg and worth supporting, not just a playground for the rich.

There was, if I recall, a box to tick to say you don't want to say, so there's only a complaint there if you look really, really hard for it.

Ah yes. All ticks in THAT box will, no doubt, be lumped straight in with the "Yes" ticks!

There do appear to be rather more sexes than there used to be. I suspect most of us can't see why anyone is interested - it only becomes relevant in making certain (usually private and mostly individual) arrangements , after all.

As a possibly irrelevant aside, as an old dance caller I was rather taken by an ad on Facebook for a Manchester LGBTQ Scottish Dancing club (which in itself slightly boggles the imagination and I apologise if I've left any letters out), which calls itself the Gay Gordons.

So do you do gender-neutral calling nowadays? Most callers now do, especially the younger ones... 😉

There are now 21 sexes / genders legally recognised in the UK

There are  now 74 identified genders

The idea is to make everyone feel comfortable in their skin irrespective of what gender they were assigned at birth.

No, I just tell them that for the sake of simplicity, I call them gents and ladies, whatever their actual gender. After all, it's just about who stands where and does what - actual gender is irrelevant. If it's kids, I make something up rather than use boys and girls, as the boys want to dance with their mates and the girls don't want to dance with boys. It's only been questioned once and nobody seemed much bothered. I have been know to point out that dancing is about the only activity when gender is definitely binary and that changing it halfway through a dance just causes confusion.

I've asked loads of people what LGBTQ means, but I can never get a straight answer....

The letters in the acronym LGBTQ+ stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning. The plus sign (+) represents the many other sexual orientations and gender identities that are part of the community, such as Asexual, Intersex, and Pansexual. Some longer versions, like LGBTQIA+, explicitly include letters for "Intersex" (I) and "Asexual" (A).

I just answer this monitoring stuff at the end of surveys with ‘prefer not to say’ that goes for ethnicity too. If there’s no option to do that, I click other and say ‘non of your damn business’.  Most organisations seem to be dropping it these days. It was the trendy thing to ask 30 years ago but most people are sick of it these days.

On the subject of surveys in general I’m sick of them too. It feels like you get one every time you buy something these days or even just make an enquiry or even just scratch your arse in their shop. I seldom see much evidence they do anything with the information else I’d be more inclined to fill them in.

Yes. I get three or four emails A DAY saying stuff like, "We just delivered your parcel, how did we do? Please complete our survey" or "Please rate your driver".

No! He just did his job which is hardly difficult!

Living slightly off the beaten track, all too often delivery drivers can't be bothered (presumably not paid enough) to go the extra mile, so I go from online tracking showing the driver getting closer to 'Sorry we were unable to deliver your parcel', even when there is someone at home, and they have been notified of a safe place to leave the package. 3 'attempts' at delivery and then the parcel is on its way back to the sender. Funnily enough, they don't ask me to rate their service!

Currently DPD are the worst offender, and somewhat surprisingly, Evri are one of the best.

Oh if only! We have a small WhatsApp group in our area. It’s mostly been set up to enable people to identify whose door the package has been put by. There’s probably one incorrect delivery per week for 10 households. We had an electrical component left by someone’s gate in the open at the top of their 25 yard drive.

Mind you one guy asked whose door their parcel was by. Though they had moved 5 months ago it took 3 of us to assure him the picture confirmed the items were indeed delivered to his own  back door..

I read a couple of FB posts like that each week for the village near us.
