CRT have been trying to agree that the tap at the bottom corner of the car park was a required asset, but it appears the facility is now no more! 

It's now Barrow on Soar or Friars Mill Moorings if you can moor alongside the permanent overstayers.

Thats a shame.  We found it very handy when we passed in July.  Other boats were using it on the two occasions we visited so it seemed busy.

It's probably been mentioned before, but I guess the removal of customer service facilities is being driven by this policy (which in turn is driven by lack of funding?)

The idea is that there will still be alternative facilities within 1 or 2 days cruising. However, judging by the number of notices we get each year about U/S facilities, boaters may have to cruise a lot further (provided stoppages don't get in the way!).

The bins at Weedon and Braunston are being removed as well.

Yes, so C&RT are expecting boaters to rely on the other bins at Braunston junction facilities and Gayton. 

 

The reason being used in the C&RT notice (and others) is this : 

 

"Unfortunately, it has not been possible to update the Customer Service Facility refuse site at Braunston Stop House to meet the requirements of the governments Simpler Recycling legislation.  The site is therefore now closed"

 

No mention of the above C&RT policy though!

To br fair, the Weedon ones are more used by locals emptying their work Van's on the way home than boaters!!

Yes this seems to be the case from what I've seen when I've passed a few times when passing walking to the church on a Sunday (pub) 😲

I think the 'policy predated experience with the new waste collection. I remain to ge convinced that it really is a problem if fitting a good waste bin since the total waste should not have changed. I wonder if it is more to do with issues regarding the demands of the waste collectors. Thud gas bedn behind a number if the previous removals or relocations
