Canal weed

Hi there. This summer I've been fishing my local canal but there is so much weed. Are you allowed to cut/remove the weed yourself or is it strictly the canal trust/waterways that can do it?

Assuming you are talking about the weed in the water, I usually end up cutting the weed in the channel with my propeller and then removing it from round said propeller and chucking it on the side. It is very rare to find somewhere that CRT has run a weed cutter.

 

Personally, I would be delighted if you and other fisher folk cut and removed the weed so I didn’t have to.

I would say go ahead and cut the weed as long as you take it out of the canal and place it somewhere that does not obstruct the towpath. Thank you if you do that.

I hope you are a roaming fisherman and can do this along the whole canal network.
