Hello, 

 

I'm researching a boat and i'm if there is anyone here, who know's who built this boat? was bought as an insurance write off and passed a few hands and previous owner could only remember it was built 08-09 and potentially aqualine marine. Any help would be great.

If it was built that recently then it should have a HIN/WIN stamped on the starboard rear transom - decoding this will tell you who built it. (that might not be the shell builder though, it could well be  aboat fitter).

It will also tel you the month & year of manufacture.

 

However - as so many NBs are built by builders who just ignore the law regarding the RCD, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't find anything.

No particular surprise given the authorities appear to make no effort to enforce the regs. So why would any unscrupulous builder bother jumping through all the hoops, believing (probably correctly) he won't be prosecuted?

To me the boat has some similarity to Hancock and Lane builds.

However I'm not confident that that is what this one is.

 

It is surely from a time before the RCD - I'm amazed at the number of threads that get hi-jacked by the RCD topic, even where it is pretty obvious that it is a complete irrelevance.

Did you read the OP ?

 

It is alleged to have been built 2008-2009 so 10 years after the introduction of the RCD.

 

The OP is trying to establish the manufacturer, which he can do via the RCD HIN.

 

Maybe you could explain your comment , or, admit you didn't read the question and context of the reply !

Another possible way to estimate date would be from the engine number, although that could well be a red herring, depending on what make is fitted. If it is 2008 ish then it’s more likely to have had  a brand new engine in when built and still have it. If it’s much earlier then it could well be a recon something originally made made moons ago, or even been swapped out at some point so not helpful.

I'd say the style of the back of the cabin looks very much like the trendy new style emerging around 2008-9. Don't see that shape much on older, pre RCD boats if at all. Classic Aqualine I'd have said, but not the bow. That looks like a different manu. Simply designed and made (i.e. cheaply!) with no proper cants.

And of course - another possible way would be to identify the BW / C&RT registration number which can be traced to a 'year'.

And theen look it up on canalplan.org.uk, entries on which sometimes say who built it.

I assume this is the one moored along the Desborough cut above Walton. It Shows the CRT number 528570 in white on the offside. Looks like an ex hire boat to me when they used to have those stubs sticking out the back instead of a fender.

Which is certainly a 'post year 2000' registration number.

yes, but it possibly started off life on non CRT waters and was registered with them after a number of years, so can’t be taken as 100% proof of age.

That is a very good point and one I should have remembered, particularly as I bought a non-registered boat onto C&RT waters in 2015 and got a 2015 registration number.

All exactly as discussed above...

 

Our Sickle is index number 501286.  Its build date, however, was 1936.

A relatively recent index number gives no real idea of the age of the boat.

OP can you send some more pictures? Especially of the stern showing the rear fender arrangement. This boat has similar lines to our Polish built boat (built in 2008).

Does the bow shape/design match yours too? Or is it just the stern?

The rather blunt/snub bow is quite similar, but not the cabin lines. Bit hard to tell without seeing the whole of the stern.

Cants are the raised edges to the fore and stern decks, originally made of wood, but now fabricated in steel and absent on the fore deck of the OP's boat.
