robtheplod Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Been here a few weeks now and never been anywhere with so many Canadian Geese! They all flock together, must be well over 100 and seem to fly in and out of the marina daily en-mass - the sky goes black! looking forward to the spring and their goslings! 1
Mac of Cygnet Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Don't they make a terrible mess? That's what I mainly remember about Canada geese. 1
Rob-M Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Aston appears to have significantly more geese than Great Haywood and we have enough there. They make a terrible mess every evening and can be quite noisy.
trane Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Wait until winter and the marina freezes over. They were coming in to land and skidding into those already there. I know you shouldn't laugh (but I did). It was like a surreal game of skittles. 2
nicknorman Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Yes there are a lot. Presumably because people feed them. The swans are quite aggressive too, I arrived at the boat in the evening the other day, and within 5 mins the swans were pecking on the window demanding food. I drew the curtains!

One of our local swans has taken to knocking on our patio window to demand food The dog is not impressed with him! 1

robtheplod Posted August 2, 2025 Author Report Posted August 2, 2025 I have to admit i do feed ducks, with those pellet things.... they love it, but the geese seem to 'take or leave it'... not really fussed.....
GUMPY Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 I find a red laser pointer is good for Canada geese. I don't know why but it spooks them and makes them leave en-masse. Very effective at clearing our lake a few years ago 😱 1
Kingdom Isambard Brunel Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Canada Geese should be in Canada. Filthy, noisy things, rubbish for eating, breed like rats. They should be culled, all of them. 3 1

beerbeerbeerbeerbeer Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 Windmill Mill End has a mass of them, and they’re the first lot I’ve come across that race/waddle fast to greet humans in the anticipation of food, they’re almost docile over there, maybe the locals are fattening them up for Christmas? But elsewhere in general, I do like witnessing the muscle men getting frightened by the Canadian Geese and ballet dancing themselves around them 😃

For that reason a green laser is said to be more effective, however obviously your red one works too. A laser is very effective, especially at dusk, in the dark, or on duller days. Wherever I moor up, if there are Canada Geese about, a few flashes of my laser and they soon get the message and keep away. 2

dogless Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 (edited) An interesting question isn't it ... when does an 'invasive' species become part of nature ? Canada geese were introduced to the UK in the 1600s ... not exactly 'fly by nights' are they. I love watching their group interactions. I suppose it's like describing rabbits as invasive. 😁 Rog Edited August 3, 2025 by dogless 2
