Is anyone on the Coventry Canal near Hawkesbury Junction?

I would like to know if the water levels are currently ok to cruise?

Also I have looked at Canal River Trust Reservoir Watch to check the reservoirs levels. I cannot find where does the Coventry Canal get its water from?

https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/specialist-teams/managing-our-water/reservoir-watch

A friend has turned onto the Ashby today, having come from Hawkesbury Junction, and as we're heading that way she has been updating me.

She said the level was fine and that it was quieter than they had expected based on previous trips.

I found the north Oxford up to Hillmorton to be quieter than I expected today. Plenty of spaces above and below the locks.

It seems to be quiet in many places. You don’t see Compton like this on a Saturday in July often, but then it’s changeover day. I suspect it’s going to be very busy in late September if we get rain

@Steve Manc I believe the Coventry Hawkesbury Ashby  to Atherstone level is fed by the Griff Brook near Nuneaton?

Hi Steve, the whole of the Staffs and Worcs is open, It’s Wolverhampton locks that’s closed, just up from Compton at Aldersley junction.

Hi

Looking for an update on the Coventry Canal water levels. Are there any issues with lack of water or mooring ?

Thanks

We are currently on the Oxford Canal above Hillmorton Locks. The water level is around 10 inches down. Some narrowboats are struggling to moor out in the open. We are currently 18 inches off the towpath. Our draft is 600mm.

I'm on the Ashby, so the same pound as the Coventry from Atherstone top lock back to Sutton Stop and Coventry. All is good, probably no more than 2 or 3 inches off the maximum possible level.

I'm a bit concerned if above Hillmorton is down 10 inches. It was down about 7 inches when we came up from Braunston less than 2 weeks ago. We will be going back in about 10 days time.

The volocky at the top of Hilmorton this lunchtime told me that the level was noticeably down today from what it was a week ago when he was last there.

Think we passed you coming up the T&M from Fradley, where i spent a while sat on the bottom in the pound between the locks until J let a lockful down 👋

Everywhere has been a bit down, but Hillmorton to Braunston/Napton has been by far the lowest bit we’ve encountered so far since setting off on the 2nd.

Yes, that pound was fine all day today whilst volunteers were on duty ... this evening it's very low again with boats still locking up.

We've decided to wait for morning and let the volockies sort levels, then carry on, onto the Coventry.

Supposed to be out for blacking first week of September at Braunston, but low levels may scupper that.

Currently between bridge 87 and 88 on the Oxford Canal. We are afloat but 18 inches off the towpath. Just measure the water depth at the steel which is 21 inches.

There is a narrowboat 60 meters in front of us. Also two behind us one around 60 meters and another 100 meters. All are close up to the steel. Not sure if they are sat on the bottom.

I can't answer that, but my camera which is not too smart is often on the wrong time date

Travelled up to Braunston Junction today. Photo of the canal above bridge 88 showing water level. The canal bed would not normally be showing.

Moored near Whittington having travelled from Fradley this morning.

Well some of us mustn’t be that smart, well at least the ones that are actually out boating. As I often have to ask what day it is and never really worry about the time.
Unlike the smart ones sat at home on their computer, who know exactly what day and time it is as they can see it in the top right hand corner of their screen.
Not being smart often has its bonuses.😂😂

If you're referring to the Coventry level of the Coventry canal then it's fine. We're still on the Ashby, near Stoke Golding, and that's no more than 2 or 3 inches below the maximum. Same pound.
