They did this when the T&M breached at Dutton, just after CRT was formed. Raised £25k towards the £2.1m cost of the repair.

So 1% of the cost?

I was talking to a CRT guy at braunston the weekend just gone. They want to get 100k people signed up (and paying) as friends of the trust. The concept is that (ontop of some income) they can go to the government and say... look how many people care enough to give money. You should give us some more!

I suppose that this is a similar tactic.

They’ve been trying it since 2012 😃

…they’ve just not been trying hard enough

It’s got the potential

You do get the feeling that while well-meaning, there is some real incompetence at CRT. They run a youtube channel (great idea for publicity) but it's extremely inconsistent. They hover around 500 views per video with the odd one breaking out into a few thousand (and a few with a decent amount). Kind of embarrassing... with some well thought out, consistent content they could achieve so much more.

I can't imagine £10k puts much of a dent in these kinds of works

just to add: CRT often get matched funding,

so if they can raise X amount another organisation will match it pound for pound.

That could be Heritage funding, Lottery Money or whoever.

So who knows?
maybe 10K then becomes 20K for Dicky’s leaving present?
