Steve9007 Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Is there a way of closing a thread once enough info has been attained by a standard user. I find some threads just go on and on talking outside of the thread title and then it’s no longer valid. Similar to what can be done on Facebook by turning off comments. 🤔

That would run counter to the ethos of this forum. Threads here do not belong to the poster starting them, they are a community asset and as such cannot be closed (other than by a mod for rule infringement). On the upside you can wake up any thread you like just by adding a post, even if its a decade old! 5
beerbeerbeerbeerbeer Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Posting just to keep thread open sorry just the way it is 2 1
dmr Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Once a thread goes beyond three pages its pretty certain its gone off topic and likely degenerated into silly arguments (mentioning no names). So just ignore the big threads. What is really bad is when posters start to add new and interesting posts to the end of a long old thread because I will likely not read it 😀
Lily Rose Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Turning off comments... one of the (many) reasons for disliking Facebook.
matty40s Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 I once did the whole of Stockton, Hatton and Lapworth in a day, I only moored up because my now wife was worried about me....I was cruising the N Stratford towards the sunset at 9.30pm and loving it..... Sorry, did I change the subject.... 1 2
AJLElectronics Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 If I could just put in my two penn'orth: There is a forum to which I used to subscribe which is maniacal about closing threads. It is one reason why I no longer use it as I find it ridiculous. Then I got put onto pre-moderation for asking the mods why they thought it was a good policy. Another forum I am active in only closes badly behaved posts, which is how in my opinion it should be. Thread drift is often very useful and relevant so long may it continue.

You can unsubscribe from the email alerts if they are coming through but no longer of interest. If you're not receiving these, just don't look at the thread anymore! 5
DHutch Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 It is also worth adding to the above, that if there is a specific reason for wanting to close the thread, and or if the content of the replied breaches our site rules and guidelines, the thread and or replied can always be reported to our moderation team along with a reason for the report, and will then be review and appropriate actions be carried out.
dogless Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 If posts are made in a thread no one reads do the words still appear ? Rog PS no peeping 1
Tam & Di Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 I think you'll find them in the same place as where a fridge light goes when the door is closed. 🙂 1
