So the sliding hatch on our boat is missing what ever is stuck to the underneath i have no idea what should be there. Anyone gleen information on what could have been there. Or is it just a case of cleaning it up rust treat it paint it and then stick some sort of insulation there. Apologies it’s not a great picture.

Mine was just painted from new and suffered with  condensation, so I worked out the thickest layer I could get on there without impeding the opening (9mm) and covered the underside in 9mm cork sheet. Stoped the condensation and provided a bit of insulation.

Ok what did you stick it with

I'm guessing it probably had a bit of ply stuck to it.

As Gumpy says you need to check what clearance you have to work with. I thought I'd add a couple of strips of aluminium to mine to help it slide. But then found the lock didnt work and I couldn't get enough adjustment to get it to work...

Eta when I replaced my ply I just used sikaflex to stick it and seal round the edges. I guess any of the sealant/adhesives would work, but dont use silicon.

Yeah I get ya, I mean to stick the insulation the metal sliding hatch. Would CT be any good maybe

You want a glue with a bit of flex to it if sticking something relatively rigid, like plywood. If the hatch is painted a dark colour it can reach a high temperature in summer. The glue needs to take up the different thermal expansion between the steel and the lining. If you are happy with the aesthetics, then the suggestion of cork would be good. Thin, insulating and flexible. Will keep the inside face warmer and stop condensation forming and dripping.
