ShanJW Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 (edited) Good morning everyone, My partner and I have our 60ft narrow boat moored around Cambridge and she is in need of a survey and also needs to be blackened. Can anyone recommend somewhere we can take our girl around Cambridge or anywhere along the K&C canal (as we are thinking of heading that way in the coming months). Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated ✨ Edited April 3, 2025 by ShanJW
Russ T Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 (edited) Not sure if Stretham ferry marina near the lazy otter is still going, but they have/had a dry dock. Fox's Marina at March, but it's not DIY (and last time we went, you weren't allowed to stay aboard) Blackthorn Lake marina on the River Nene (Clive), has a nice high trolley if you want to do the baseplate, and you can stay aboard. David Mack Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 @Scholar Gypsykeeps his boat in your neck of the woods and probably knows more about local facilities than most of us here.
Scholar Gypsy Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 I use Foxes every five years for blacking, hull survey and any necessary works (the sink drain failed in 2023); and Ken at Stretham in the gaps for blacking (which is therefore done every 2 1/2 years). Westview at Earith have a good reputation (and good lifting facilities, which I used last year)
ShanJW Posted April 6, 2025 Author Report Posted April 6, 2025 Thank you all for your responses I really appreciate it. Foxes, is that the boatyard in Ipswich? Or a different location? Westview looks great, and is very close to where our boat is moored. So we are going to enquire there. Also, can I just say how beautiful your boat is, such a lovely colour scheme. 1

PaulJ Posted April 6, 2025 Report Posted April 6, 2025 I always reccomend Westview - they would always be my first choice as have a great reputation but are usually well booked up. You may get a cancellation though as you are the right side of the Ouse- a lock will break soon so someone wont be able to make it there😀 You could also try Upware marina on the Cam https://upwaremarina.wixsite.com/home or Wyton Moorings at Huntingdon. My neighbour got blacked there and really rated the place. I just looked at their website but it seems to have been overun with 'you have a virus' pop ups so be careful were you click.. 1
CIEL Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 Westview is my yard of choice but as has been said are usually well booked up. This was July 2020 so thanks for the reminder, time to book in again!
