Simon (Hawksmoor) Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 I have seen that I need a windlass with a 1.25" square hole for the River Nene Is that the same size as the larger hole in a standard windlass or do I need a special one? (Obviously I am not on my boat at the moment so cannot measure mine!! )
Jen-in-Wellies Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 The large hole in the windlass I measured is 1.25", so you should be good to go. 1
Jonny P Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 It’s the EA Abloy key that’s essential for the Nene. It’s on the Middle Level you’ll need a special windlass if you’re going there too.
matty40s Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 There are a couple of locks you will need a windlass for, Becketts Park and Wellingborough, virtually all the rest are electric with key, or manual large wheel (Titchmarsh electric never seems to work). If you are going down/coming back and need a middle level windlass, I do lend mine out to forum members occasionally.

Given I’ve borrowed your EA key and Middle level windlass a couple of times recently you’d think I’d remember for certain! Edited March 12 by Jonny P
matty40s Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 (edited) Aye, but he's going downhill so the top gates should all be open...except for those 3... You are completely correct, numpty moment, it is late and it's been 3 years since last.. Edited March 12 by matty40s 1
GUMPY Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 Something odd there.😱 Nene locks should be left empty with the bottom guillotine up. 1
Ray T Posted March 13 Report Posted March 13 (edited) A River Nene Windlass. 😁. "Boat Woman on the River Nene, 1895." From a series of post cards, photo by Henry Rudolph de Salis Edited March 13 by Ray T
