A postcard of this image has just sold for £54.67 on eBay. I wonder if anyone on this forum bought it. (If you did, and you object to it being posted here, I'll amend this post) It is an excellent image. It appears to be taken at the top of the locks in Chester. The listing says the image is from c1910 but I think it must be late 1930's.

usk was built in 1939 - and was with mole and ben smith from 1946 to at least the end of the fuel oil traffic in 1955 so your late 1930s can not be right

Thanks for letting us know - that's very interesting.

Is this the same location and possibly even the same vessels at a different year?

Didn't @carlt have Usk for a while ?

I wonder if Nancy ever received it. Obviously it was not sent by post.

If your reply was to highlight the boat on the bank, that isn't Usk.

That's Lucy, one of Carl's other boats.

Thanks again Ian for putting me right, I think that's three times in the past week. Yes it was to highlight the boat remains on the bank, but as you said I got the wrong boat but the right man. Its probably an age thing with the old grey cells.

We almost got to Banbury this week, now tell me I am thinking of the wrong Ian. 😁

I did think when I posted that I hope you don't mind me correcting you again! 🤣

As for Banbury, probably another Ian as I don't have any connection to the town apart from visiting by boat and like you we 'almost' get there whenever we plan to 😀

The floating Boat has the nursers snakes on it.

Presumably these are off Lucy. Beautiful bit of ironwork.

The 'Rat' looks like an LMS station Boat at least the bows.

Yarwoods I think.

I appreciate it thanks. I will go back and edit my blog.  I have no problem being told I am wrong when I am.

I wondered if it had a valuable stamp and someone steamed it off.

There is no address on the postcard. Maybe it was delivered by hand .

He's used the whole area for his message, so perhaps it was sent in an envelope. The sender seems to be working in a boatyard, and suffering from ailments associated with him welding galvanised steel.

The message on old cards can sometimes be more interesting than the picture on the front.

I think it was Usk he owned. Umbriel was the one with the Bolinders. Usk had an Armstrong Siddley AS2.

Usk and Lucy were moored at end of the puddlebanks before the Pink Floyd bridge. The others were further out on the field there at Wolfhampcote.

Very common.

I have an old postcard with a painting of a lady and a gentleman in a skiff on a lake with lightning and a dramatic landscape background.

The hand written note is 'a life on the ocean wave - I don't think' then a signature.

Its an old one. I think its really funny.

I can't see Lucy in either of these photos.

The knees visible are the remains of an icebreaker (look at that chine angle).

I think Pete had moved Lucy to behind his workshop by the time the photo was taken.

Lucy is under the marquee framework, behind the small piece of fence panel. She’s still there.
