I was hoping to use the dock at Bunbury to paint the outside of my boat this year. Unfortunately they no longer hire it out. Does anyone know of a wet dock within a short drive of Nantwich? We will only need it for about 5 days.

Thanks I'll check it out.

I think Anderton Marina has a wet dock.

They don't hire out, unfortunately.

Ellesmere? I know it's a dry dock, but it's still an indoor covered space (and presumably you wouldn't have to drain it if you really don't want to?)

Northwich Drydock Company has a wet-dock paint shed, one bay of which is for DIY use.

A bit further but there's one at Stafford Boat Club.

Isn't there one at the old Teddesley Boat site, Penkridge

If you mean the canopy on the offside, that had disappeared when I was last there in December. I don't know if it was available for DIY either.

The CRT wet dock at Ellesmere in Shropshire has a leak going into their buildings so they keep it as a dry dock as soon as a boat enters / leaves.

The Northwich wet dock will be on the Weaver. Whats the set up with the Anderton lift this year. I need to check.

Thanks for all the suggestions, by the way.

It's out of action just now (more problems with the gate safety mechanisms), but is supposed to be operating until late autumn when the overhaul starts.

That's been the plan for the last two years, it keeps getting set back a year.

There is a cracking wet-dock st Circus Field.  Masonry built, heated,  proper ventilation, dust free  sander included.

Not very near Northwich I would  agree, but a nice journey.

As I understand it from talking to the lift staff, that is not a negative. They set an original date based on expected lifetime of the present system and did not want to spend cash whilst there was still life left in the old thing which continued to work (mostly! Sometimes needed a bit of a nudge . . . ). Hence the date was put back, but not the conspiracy theory some seem to subscribe to (no names!) Whilst not too many boats have been affected by the present closure, let's hope that it is not a matter of being over optimistic before! Especially as they now want to maximise the publicity planned for the upcoming anniversary year.

Over 3 hours away, bit too far to commute.

You can stay on the boat while it's in the dock.

And  there is a kitchen with toaster, grill and microwave plus a (next door) toilet and shower for dock users.

And a couple of separate workshops where you can do a bit of carpentry or paint removable items away from the main action.
