There is an estate in Winterton where no washing out on Sunday is in their deeds

My late Swiss mother-in-law, never hung her washing out on Sundays as it was illegal to hang out washing on Sundays in Switzerland. Flushing toilets in apartments was also illegal after 22:00 apparently.

In the Outer Hebrides when i was on a cycling holiday 1980s, it was difficult to get B&B on Sat night. I nearly slept on the bus, it was parked and unlocked!

I found a place, she had a corridor room for her washing, and told me walking except to Church was frowned upon on Sunday. They all wore black and carried a bible.

There were no ferries. No pubs open. No trade.

Clearly a modern production. In the days when the long 's' was used, the horizontal bar of the f-like symbol for 's', only extends to the left of the vertical line.

It's on a stone block embedded into an outside wall of Hythe Town Hall.
