I think this one is serious but the wording did make me chuckle.

Don't chuck dead bodies in there.

Also this one is funny but again it may be an official notice.

There used to be a poster in Oxenholme (Lake District) Station showing a tattooed youth who looked drunk diving head first into a Lakeland stream. It was well painted , the sun was out and he looked like he was on holiday having fun. It was to encourage tourists.
Another poster near to it warned of the dangers of swimming outdoors especially diving headfirst into anything

The tattooed lad looked like he was having too much fun for h&s! I did have a photo.

(I am not condoning diving head first into any water if you don’t know it). And we all know the perils of diving into Windermere. If you must. Keep your gob firmly closed.

Here in Suffolk the EA have put them on the other side of the railings so you can only read them from the river

I wonder if that is a direction sign, or a political slogan?

ETA

I was thinking of Hoffnung's comment about ignoring all left and right signs. 'They are merely political slogans.' He was talking about roads, but the joke remains valid.

This one makes me smile as if you would care about being prosecuted having caught Weil's disease.

Surely the point is that nowadays companies who don't warn people about known potentially-severe hazards on their "premises" are liable to prosecution and possibly massive damages if somebody is injured or dies as a result?

You could blame "elf'n'safety" or the modern litigious society, but that's the way it is today...

That picture is 11 years old

One with similar wording was there in the last century.

If the offenders bit was above the waterborne diseases bit it would be fine

By "modern" I meant "not in the good old days when men were *real* men", not the 2020s... 😉

Anyway, given that the resulting risk (probability*consequence) from Weil's disease is undoubtedly much worse than that of being prosecuted for swimming, and you normally put the worst thing first in a list of warnings, I'd say they were in the right order... 🙂

To my mind as it's printed it reads that you will be prosecuted for catching Weil's disease. Not for swimming.

I guess it's a ASD thing

The only things wrong with that sign are the words 'don't ' and 'or' - delete them and it would be perfect.

Have you tried the famous echo in the reading room in the British Museum?

Pickett's Lock on the Lee? It's been a while but I recall the lock cottage kept geese in the pound above the lock.

I wonder whether this one is still in place...
