I agree.

This is a discussion form , not an arguing forum and they are not the same animal. Too many on here, both old and new members, seem to delight in arguing for the sake of it and when mud slinging starts it  seems to escalate things.

Not doing the forum any good!

Indeed, The outright persecution of any member is unacceptable, however there also seems to be a culture of egotistical nit picking and disagreeing for the sake of it, quite often on discussions that are speculative or theoretical where argument is actually a total waste of time. The culture of the forum needs to shift if it is to survive.

There's a sobering quote that pops up in the internet from time to time:-

"In 120 years no one will remember you. You will be buried/cremated along with all your current family and friends. You'll be remembered for a few years, but when everyone who knows you dies you won't even be a memory. A few decades later our history and photos disappear into history's oblivion. If it's still standing, strangers will live in your house you worked so hard to buy. Nearly all your possessions will be thrown away and destroyed. The car (and boat) you spent a fortune on, will have long since been scrapped. Our descendants will hardly know who we were. If you stop and think about this you realise how pointless 95% of the things that consume our daily minds is."

On that basis all discussions on the internet or elsewhere are ephemeral and pointless, as are most interactions between people.... 😉

Go into any pub -- people have discussions all the time about things that they might find fascinating but others might utterly boring or pointless, for example sport -- but that's what humans do to amuse themselves.

If you aren't interested, don't join in -- same in a pub as on CWDF... 😉

But don't accuse them of being imbeciles because they follow a football team (or have a pumpout toilet or BT or a fantasy fitout...), since this is likely to lead to a punch-up -- again, same on CWDF as in a pub... 😉
