A very enjoyable programme. Even swmbo enjoyed it especially see in the Swale again and remembering how narrow that channel is for a craft with over 6' draft. Thats when the Chartplotter really comes into its own as the bouyage does tend to move around a bit on fast tides.

 

The Square rigger 'Astrid' they showed is another lovely boat, Dutch flag and is a regular to the Oostend at anchor festival.

 

Followed her out of Oostend last May and we both ran down towards Dunkirk. 2 miles out and 1 crew member climbs the shrouds and lets loose topsails. Fantastic sight

Just incase anyones interested there is a book by Griff called 'To the baltic with bob' . Its about how he came to buy Undina after hankering after a wooden boat for years. Its one of my favourite books , i could read it over and over. The isbn is - 0-141-01286-2.

We know it is repeated, and I'm watching part one again. Have to say the pics of the boat while sailing, and running in the wind are fantastic.

 

As impressive as the pics of the helicopter keeping station with the lifeboat were in part two, I find the pictures taken of Undina in the waves just as impressive, as they must have been taken from another boat in the same conditions.

 

I'll most likely give the second part another chance, and try to look at the good bits.

In these GPS plotter times, charts are not treated with the same reverence as they used to be. They should be, though. They don't need batteries.
