So, I need to go back thru 3,100,000 posts to find a post where 5239 was quoted by someone else, before 5239 was 5239.

 

It's understandable, as quoting someone is like a screen shot (not a live document) so it will show the name as it was at the time of the 'screen shot'.

 

But if anyone today goes back and quotes a post made by 5239 from 10 years ago it will still show him as 5239. All previous posts are updated automatically - the same with your avatar (picture) change that, and every post you have ever made gets changed also.

IF some of the historians on here changed their username I’d find it frustrating trying to track down some interesting facts and information. 
 

But when I mostly post stuff about beer or nonsense then I can’t see it matters much

This was merely the first post that I came across where someone had quoted one of Goliath's posts before he changed his username, and it happened to be one of your posts.

Well I've been Ange since 1965 (obviously not on this forum 🙂)

I was new to forums when I signed up and didn't know about user names so just signed up with my name - my son was amazed it wasn't already taken.

An issue I rarely ever have when using my own name as a user name on websites. 😀

The surgery was crazy.

I chose haggis as it gives no indication of my sex. In a previous on line discussion group where I used my own name i started getting sexually explicit messages so I left . It left a very uneasy feeling.
