Barbridge Inn - any updates?

The White Hart Inn in Ellesmere does not do food. So you are either thinking of a different pub or they have stopped doing food.

Ah, I must be thinking of another pub in Ellesmere. The one we go to is about a 10 minute walk from the basin and up a side street I could take you to it but not name it 🙂

What's the Black Lion like nowadays?

 

Only went in the once and that was enough. Had to listen to overly dramatic bar manager complaining to anyone that would listen about how hungover he was and how he "couldn't even", and then his afternoon cover rang in sick so he was trying to wheedle the only other member of staff into remaining for the afternoon which she was having none of. Luckily by this point we were settling the bill

The Black Lion has been closed down for a while, however, it has had a total refurb and will be opening soon. Don't know if it is new management or not but I think it had been closed for a good while.

 

The Red Lion over near the Mere is doing good food though.

It's now open,it opened last week.We've not been in yet but certainly will be going soon as we live in Ellesmere.

*We're  two more fans of 'The White Hart'-a proper pub for drinking decent ales.Some cracking music nights too.

Attempted to stop at the Barbridge Inn today, but most of the moorings taken by the same continuous moorers that have been there over winter, the couple of “available” spaces already taken by actual passing trade. Not sure if the pub has decided to let some/all of the moorings on a permanent basis - their choice I guess but disappointing if so and limiting to trade especially as for some reason CRT have barricaded the towpath under the bridge so you can’t easily walk from the towpath side either, so a double whammy for minimising passing boater trade to the pub.

That's b**** annoying! When I mentioned to the previous owner the moorings being hogged by the same boats thus preventing visitors who wanted to eat in the pub being denied access,  he moved them all on. I think we now need to make the new owners aware of the effect these boats have on their income and hopefully they will be moved off again. They probably haven't realised how selfish these boat owners are . 

I feel an email coming on 🙂

I couldn't find an email address on the web site so phoned and spoke to the manager who had noticed the boats clogging up his moorings. He said 2 are moving on tomorrow and he will speak to the other one. He thanked me for my call! He appreciated the problem with the towpath under the bridge being closed.

Unless those boats are paying for their mooring to the pub.

Worth noting that at least two of the boats directly outside the pub had only been there two days at most when we passed, and that the bridge is accessible from the Nantwich side as we moored there, probably less total walking distance than from the rings directly opposite.

Good to hear that the boats you saw hadn't been there long

 When we went past a few weeks ago we recognised the names of two of the boats outside he pub as having been there when last we past in the autumn and a few times before. , 

Yes, you can moor past the bridge but on pins 🙂 

We look forward to visiting the pub in a couple of weeks, no matter where we moor

When we owned a boat moored at Venetian, this was one of my favourite watering holes at weekends, a lovely gentle cruise up from Venetian, evening meal and a couple of pints at Barbridge - providing I could find a mooring close to the pub (disabled wife). Always loved the food and good beer, I hope the new owners keep up the standards
