Apart from how much it costs to change the oil 😂

Ah but with three times the correct amount of oil, you only need to change it one third as often Shirley.

The 4LW in my crane has a big deep  flat bottom  sump ,easily 10 gallons ,with a hand pump to change it ......the motor was actually new when I bought the crane ,the Govt Dept had fitted a new motor from their stock .........I changed the oil once in 40 years .

We've been in contact with a friend of my stepdad who has multiple Gardner engines, one of which is a 3LW in a crane with the same sump. So it does seem that at some point this was in a crane (or parts were sourced from one out of a crane).

Id think its just a standard industrial sump ......the Gardner in the crane seems to me to be a 'power pack' ...self contained engine and  clutch unit  supplied with Gardner air cleaner ............anyway ,no matter ,its headed for scrap ,as Gardners have no value here.

They're worth a few £k in the UK, couple of online quotes suggest shipping costs would be around £1k, so should be some money to be made even from Australia. Would be a pity to scrap a good engine.

Gardner air cleaner? The "UFO" in grey? how's the filter inside, because half of the inside of mine is missing. If it's one of these, I'd consider buying that off you, have to work out the shipping though......  Haven't been able to find one yet.
