Navigation closed until further notice due to significant damage to lock gate due to a boat striking the gate.

Closure extended from lock 54 to lock 56

Short pound with very limited mooring space.

We advise boating visitors to find a safe and available mooring some distance from lock 54 to 56

I see cart don't know where their own winding holes are, Cowroast is not the nearest there is one literally just below Lock 53 opposite the station.

Lock 55 was damaged quite a while ago and only passable by narrowboats using the offside gate.

There was a winding hole below lock 56, but this seems to have completely disappeared now.

You could also wind in the river exit between the pub and the garage, although this looks like it has had its banks strengthened since I was down there for the Winter in 2009.

It was well silted when I left there in 2019. It never was official but was often used especially by me as it was the closest to my mooring going north.

It's not on their asset map so they don't know it exists.

UPDATE : Further to the damage caused by the boat strike on Saturday afternoon please be advised that our engineers and reactive team are putting everything in place to get the lock back open as soon as we can.

We have a work craft on its way to site to allow our reactive team manager to get accurate measurements for a new metal heel.

This will then need to be fabricated. We have a contractor providing a quote to support us in lifting the gate out for a repair. We have requested service searches to allow us to permit anchor mooring rings to be installed in the quadrant to allow us to temporarily strap up the gate which will allow us to offer assisted passage until the permanent repairs can be completed.

A further update will be provided once assisted passage can be offered
