Hi - we have a 48' narrowboat and would like to join a group crossing The Wash to the Great Ouse sometime during 2025. Is anyone out there wanting to do the same??

Cheers - John

I am aware of plans for some quite large groups to do the crossing next year, I will (if I remember!) post a reply once they are firmed up.

In the meantime you may find this helpful. https://scholargypsy.org.uk/washing/  though I did get a bit carried away with the gadgets.

Daryl the pilot normally prefers to go to Wisbech, as the tidal Great Ouse can be quite tricky with a group of boats.

Once you get to the other side, you might find this helpful:  https://goba.org.uk/a-guide-for-visitors-to-the-east/

Boats supporting Fund Britain's Waterways are planning to go that route after the Westminster flotilla in May next year, maybe consider joining them? Please contact Hazel Owen: hazelowen.awcc@outlook.com and 07929 204811.

Thank you, that was the trip I had in mind.  I wasn't sure if anything has been announced yet!

Still in the final planning stages, but please register your interest with Hazel.

I hope the OP will do that.  I suspect I may end up offering my services as competent crew ....

Thank you. We will only do it with a 'guide' (pilot)....

Yes, we are hoping to cross the wash from Boston to King's Lynn in 2025. We've been in contact with the pilot, Daryl Hill, who is collecting names. If you [send me a message] I'll forward his email on to you and you'll then have his contact details and get your name added to the list.

Cheers - John

Daryl described the conditions on this day in 2015 as a bit marginal, with the wind from the North. Only one person was seasick. As you can see from the chart we took quite a diversion to avoid having the wind and waves beam on.

John,

This the message I received when I tried to message you:

As a security measure, we require members to have 10 or more posts in order to use the PM system. If you need to contact Canal World for assistance, please click here

However, the link "here" didn't work. I'm going to contact Canal World and ask how this can be resolved.

Haha! Thank you....

I think I now have the excuse to post the following comment. When you talk to Daryl, be clear about how many boats you want to take in the convoy.  His normal practice is to have smaller groups doing the run to Denver, as it is rather trickier than the run to Wisbech.

Will do, thanks Simon

You just need to make 10 posts so do a few more replies until your post counts is 10.

Thank you, I'm still working on it but must be near my 10 posts by now! 😊

You can see the number of posts made in your profile, currently shows 7 so nearly there.

You just need to change the subject to something completely irrelevant. That is quite normal on here.

Haha! I’ve been accused of that before albeit not in this forum!
