monkeyhanger Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) I have had an Aquafilta on my drinking water tap for 30 years now. Replacement filters are starting to become expensive, so I am considering changing the complete unit for something more up to date. Are today's water filters better than my Aquafilta? The replacement filters certainly seem cheaper. If I do change my complete unit, which one should I go for? Any advice gratefully received. Edited October 30, 2024 by monkeyhanger Added comment
Tony Brooks Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 As far as I am concerned - none, just do away with it.
junior Posted November 3, 2024 Report Posted November 3, 2024 Why can't you drink the water straight out of your tank/tap?

BoatinglifeupNorth Posted November 3, 2024 Report Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) Maybe have a look at exactly what’s inside the Jabsco canister. I opened one from the top which was fairly simple and it’s just filtration carbon and a piece of filter felt stuff from what I remember. I then bought some Aquarium carbon and a filter bag, filled the bag popped it back into the canister reassembled and it works fine. I can’t work out why they’re so expensive? DaveP Posted November 3, 2024 Report Posted November 3, 2024 I replaced my Jabsco Aquafilta with a domestic system from aqfilters in 2023, it's physically much larger, but it fitted behind my tall fridge in the galley. Three filters - sediment, activated carbon and a softener. Replacement cost for a set of three is £20, compared to the >£40 for the jabsco one - which is only equivalent to the activated carbon aqfilter filter. It does need stop valves fitting, but given that pipework needs moving anyway for the installation, that wasn't an issue.
LadyG Posted November 3, 2024 Report Posted November 3, 2024 Im not convinced mains water is free of pesticides, herbicidss, or other poisons, as there is no evidence the water companies remove these things. I buy water bottled at source for drinking though I still use mains for cooking and cups of tea. I think the filter jugs remove some chemicals.
