Dorman 2LB Spares/oil?

junior

Featured Posts

Firstly, does anyone know what oil I need to put in a Dorman 2LB? I do have a manual, but I've left it on the boat, and need to get some oil to take with me back to the boat. Google is not conclusive.

Also, does anyone know a company/website where I can get spares, or at a minimum new air filter and oil filters? It's a few years since I had to buy these things myself, and I previously went to Marine Engine Services in Uxbridge, who I believe have now closed.

We use Rico Filters for all our supplies, they have a very good cross brand matching service for filters which you can use if you register. There may be another one nearer you, but we can find filters for all kinds of strange engines from them.

Oil, unless someone suggests other, I.would use Morris goldenfilm.30.

I can't be sure, but that looks like an oil bath air filter, so no filter is required. If it is then routing maintenance is, remove the top, usually a single nut or wing nut in the centre and lift off/out. Wash the wire mesh in paraffin or similar, take the body off and pour the dirty oil away and wash the oil bath. You could wipe it out but don't let any oil go down the air intake, refill the oil bath with engine oil to the mark but NEVER, ever overfill. that is it

Are you sure it has an oil filter, I can only see what looks like a fuel filter.

No idea about oil, a straight SAE30 would not surprise me,

I see Matty has just posted, so hopefully he can give chapter and verse.

More or less what I guessed at.

An online Dorman manual for 'L' series engines lists 30w

Another plug for Rico in Daventry - I called in at their warehouse to find unusual filters for our front tank filter and they were extremely helpful

Inline filters in Dobwalls, Cornwall have a really good referencing and cross referencing tool on their website and I have always had good service from them.

Try these for any filters:

Not a million miles from Dutton(if that's where you are?)
In my experience they have never failed to find suitable filters for all sorts of applications, some quite obscure.
That 2LB is a bit of a beast, 28HP in a non-boat application and revs to 2200. I think it has 5inch pistons.
If you feel it isn't powerful enough, there's an 8LB  here doing not very much you could drop in 😄.

That's useful, especially as I pop to Dukinfield for work occasionally. Unfortunately the boat is deep draughted enough as it is, so I won't be needing your 8 anytime soon.

Not quite 5 ''       the LC and LD are 5'' ,the LB is 125mm.........the 4s and 6s used to  be  common motors in gensets ,but never been much spares available for them..........one time at an auction I got a  Dorman V16 LYQT (if I remember rightly )      had two big CAV axial starters on it ..........it ran too ......paid all of $100 for it .
