Please note that this survey is NOT about fossil fuel burning stoves, but SOLID fuel burning appliances, including wood, which is not a fossil fuel.  Fossil fuels of course would include oil and gas, which the survey is not about.

But I see the thread title has now been changed.

I did do that survey but did feel that its one of those "surveys" where you are gently guided into agreeing with what they have already decided.

Likewise.

I am also curious about what they meant by solar as a source of space heating. The times I need some sort of space heating on the boat generally coincide with times when there isn't much sunshine.

Yes someone else linked to it a couple of weeks ago. It did look like a survey designed to get the results the survey author wanted....

It seemed to me that they didn't appreciate that technical/regulatory  (bss/rcd) issues might be a problem for boaters switching to different heating.

They are probably thinking houses with solar and electric heat pumps with 6" of insulation under the floor and in the walls with controlled air exchange

Isn't the real original source of all fossil fuels, solar energy?

Yes.  We've managed to burn a few billion years worth of stored sunshine (coal and oil) in the last hundred years or so.

  • Ray T changed the title to For those with solid fuel burning stoves.

Which is gonna come to a dead stop soon, one way or another...

This link to an xkcd post illustrates your point wonderfully:

I can see that. However those with an alternative view might choose to report that they have no viable alternative to solid fuel in their boat, and are already compliant with clean air act requirements through choice of suitable fuel and stove.

Just saying.

ISTR a couple of years ago a consultation about returning to imperial measurements. It was clearly slanted to a particular outcome, but that idea was ditched after a huge response from people saying they were happy with the current arrangements.

Aren't ALL surveys slanted? (yes, years ago I did experience several presentations where survey design was explained) Still feel they're slanted, especially customer satisfaction surveys commissioned by interested parties.

Once you realise or understand that surveys these days are meant to *shape* popular opinion rather than *measure* it, you'll stop believing them.

Cynical, yes.  Accurate, also yes.

This is certainly my opinion too.

I find myself invited to take part in a survey and the invitation is constructed in such a way as to provoke me to want take part in order to 'have my say' and express what I think of the product or service. Then the questions start coming and none of them gives me any chance to actually say what actually I think. Then the survey finishes, leaving me feeling cheated and used. Poor me.

And, of course, so the box marked "have you consulted your public" can be ticked before you instigate the policy you have previously decided on. A recent CRT one, still being moaned about in some quarters, crawls to mind...
