Quick question, please: is membership linked to one named boat, or can you use membership to receive service on more than one boat? Thanks

#2

I'm sure there was an option of whether you wanted the membership linked to the boat name or a person's name.

Ok, that sounds promising, thanks. Hoping to be able to do a favour for a friend in need.

I don't know if this facility still exists (or if it ever did). When you join RCR you have to give details of your boat so presumably they check that when you call them out. With gold membership I know they cover any person on a named boat (like share schemes, for example) but that is different from a named person being covered on any boat. Best to check, I think

I'm seeing this

  • Vessel covered for any user or Member covered on any vessel.

under Gold membership, so that should work.

What I can't see (should have asked this in title) is whether a breakdown covers a sinking.

Just phone up and ask them, I seem to remember the essence of their contracts that they will do what they can, but not what they cant DAMHIK.

The have a commercial arm for non members.

It should, provided that you selected the "Member on any vessel" option at last renewal.

"Vessel covered for any user or member covered on any vessel, cover option chosen can only be changed on renewal."

Gold covers vessel with any user or member covered on any vessel. Silver covers anybody on the registered boat. Bronze covers the registered boat only when the registered user is on it.

Retainer registers the boat as the member but you pay as you use it.

I think the full details are on their website, or om me and I'll send you the pdf they sent tis year.

I've always stuck to bronze because I'm always on the boat, occasionally with a.n.other but no-one else uses it. After them paying for two gearbox repairs I'm still ahead of the game, moneywise.

Any user on any vessel? Wish I'd known that - would have asked my friends to insure me on my boat under their cover! 😂

Reading it again I think the meaning is not what it looks like. The phrase is "vessel covered for any user or member covered on any vessel". I missed out the fact it was just the specific vessel covered for any user. Sorry for error, I've amended my original post.

I can’t see it being applicable to any boat otherwise one person could take out Gold membership for us all and advertise themselves to just turn up to any breakdown or sinking.

I believe that the RAC membership can be to any vehicle or it used to be but it’s a different set up altogether

Whenever I renew my membership of RCR I am offered the option of having the boat covered for any user or me covered for any boat.

This is for Gold membership.

Presumed so - I was just being intentionally daft. X
