Hmmmm well Rothen group put up nice new signs for the marina, but now Jackie and Angie have been made redundant and for the time being at least, no staff to sell diesel, coal, gas or pumpout. Nothing to suggest that from the canal, so several boats were seen turning into the marina, wandering about a bit, then leaving. So I thought I would let anyone who was planning to use the services, know that they are closed.

A bit difficult to get a pump out anywhere down the Coventry canal now then. With the services at Peel Wharf gone we were told that the Fazeley Marina was the place to go.

Thanks for the information, one of my regular stops on the way home

Thats a shame for me as I like to stop and get diesel from there but must be really annoying for Jackie.

Hope all goes back to normal soon.

It could well be the new normal

We needed a pumpout and called into Spring Wood Haven? I had to call them later in the day as I didn’t ask the price beforehand. I was informed confidently,  £27.50. I can’t justify that cost. I also asked them to get me a drive belt. Also £27.50. About twice normal cost. I will avoid in the future.

what a rip off merchant. ABC!!!

As you have discovered. I queried this fantastic charge for a pump out. They said it was they have to pump into a holding tank and then pump it up over the hill for disposal. I like fairy stories normally.

If you want to try Boot Wharf, good luck if you can get anywhere near it for boats triple moored. I am not sure that they can do it.

Been past Boot Wharf many a time. Says they are open. Like you, Not convinced it’s achievable.

Didn’t mention the hill bit, but said they have to get a lorry in to clear the tank.

Said I was lucky to pay less than their charge. I said I was unlucky to stop there!

We paid £20 at Lyons Boat yard on the North Stratford in July. New pontoon/jetty, easy access and very helpful lady. Said she didn't see any hire boats but we are out longer than most.

I thought Lyon’s boatyard had a nasty fire in late May. Have they managed to get back by July? They seemed very pleasant when we stopped there in  May.

I had thought that CRT had some sort of agreement with Fazeley for services when the one at Fazeley junction went?

Thats for rubbish and elsan as I understand it, not diesel and pumpout

We got both loos pumped out here about 5 years ago, but we were double/triple moored and the hose did reach. (roof mounted pump out connections)

They did (for rubbish, elsan and water) - as in CRT paid them for it. Them being ABC. Whether this has transferred to Rothen I’m not sure.

Lyons still had no mains power in July but were running on generators.  They were working really hard to get back on their feet.  The pontoon/jetty looked very new.

Do the Rother Groupe sell diesel and do pumpouts at there other marina, I have never seen any notices out there advertising services

According to their website they do, but it doesn’t say whether just for moorers or for passing trade too.

What other marinas do the Rothern Group own or operate please?

I am very familiar with the Rothern Group on connection with waterway maintenance, workboat hire, etc.  I've not before come across them in connection with leisure boat marinas.

Mancetter marina

Shows how little boating we have been able to get in in recent times.

Last time I passed through Mancetter I can't recall any evidnce of a Marina there, either completed or in progress.

There was a boat moored in there when I first took ownership of OF, in 2008. It wasnt a marina as such, just an old water filled quarry or gravel pit.The entrance (whichbwas piled) became full of reeds and the boat disappeared soon after .

Remember that well, always thought it would be a good spot for a marina

That’s shocking to hear of redundancies.
I hope they can get a transfer to one of the other marinas.
One of the few places that didn’t make a fuss over my slow filling diesel tanks!

proper shame that, always got a nice welcome off Jackie.

I can’t think where I’d go if the services are removed or I choose to boycott the place.

Alvecote for fuel?

I’m not sure what happened because originally we were assured that Jackie was remaining in post, then 2 weeks later she was gone. It could be that she decided it was time to go as she did nearly leave once before, and there was some sort of mutually beneficial deal. Just guessing.
