Hi all,

Going to need some diesel soon(ish)

Currently near Bournville, on our way to Wolverhampton, then on to Market Drayton. Do any fuel boats operate around here as can’t see any boatyards ahead.

cheers in advance

Oxley marina on the staffs and Worcs before you turn onto the Shroppie at Autherley, Turners at Wheaton Aston on the Shropshire Union bridge 19, fuel boat Lyndsey run by Richard  of   https://chamberlaincarryingco.co.uk/ runs down the Shroppie regularly to the M54 bridge, give them a call for schedule

or have a look here.  https://noproblem.org.uk/blog/where-to-buy-diesel/#bcn

Unless you are desperate then Turners at Wheaton Aston on the Shroppie is only a couple of days away.  You could also divert to Hawne Basin on Dudley No 2 for the really cheap stuff. Also there is Sherbourne Wharf (by the Distillary) in the centre of Birmingham, that is probably not cheap but you could just put 50 quid in there to tide you over until Turners.

Sherbourne Wharf is extremely expensive.

Hawne Basin is very cheap and well worth the trip if you can afford the time.

Rich on Roach is the fuel boat working that area.

Oxley Marine is the next option - not used it.

Turners is very cheap but has limited opening hours.

Norbury Wharf tends to price match Turners these days.

Four Counties work round the Four Counties Ring so you are within their range as soon as you get to Autherley.

A trip through Gosty Hill tunnel is a must do for any boater, especially as once you have gone through you realise you have to return through it.

Hawne basin is lovely  but watch the entrance bridge. It’s quite low but pretty much matches Gosty Hills profile apparently.

Thanks all. You lot really are an impressive and helpful bunch. The Hawne basin sounds brilliant, wish we had the time. Meeting Rick from the Roach fuel boat tomorrow in central brum- just got lucky really.

cheers again

I was too busy legging in Dudley for photos, only one I have in the tunnel has plenty of headroom

I know my photo is terrible, but it's the only one which shows just how close to the roof we got. I was on the stern, looking forward to the tunnel tug.

The basin bridge is about 4 inches lower in the centre than the lowest point of the tunnel. Clearance at cabin corners is similar to the tunnel if you're centred in the bridge, but there's more room to drift sideways and scrape them.

Oxley Marine may be cash only. It was when we had a pump out a couple of years.

Their diesel was £1.00 per litre this Sunday (08.09.24) when we passed.

For those of us who moor at Hawne we have the happy knowledge that every time we go out we have the joys of the tunnel:unsure:. Truth be told it isn't the headroom that is the real problem, it is the silt build up from about halfway through the tunnel (just beyond the air shaft heading out) until you get beyond Gosty Hill Bridge. It is washing out from the old tug bay at the northern end of the tunnel and we are hoping to get a dredger to try and do something about it. To give some idea, it takes me 35 minutes to pass through Netherton Tunnel a distance of 3027 yards (1.7 miles), I've never got through Gosty at 557 yards (0.3 miles) in better than 20 minutes, so to pass through Netherton at the Gosty speed would take just shy of 2 hours.:(
