Nice wine, a dozen in the rack right now 😁

Seconded, an excellent regular tipple.

Tor gave me a bottle a few weeks ago and I bought him a bottle of something similar I drink regularly BUT... having not seen him since I seem to have drunked it! No doubt we will catch up again but this time I'll provide the wine 🍷

If you like cabalie, try the Aldi Italian Primitivo at 6.29 a bottle, it's lush !

Since this has turned into a 'what I got from Aldi or Lidl' thread, I all but stole a marvellous pair of binos from Aldi for a laughable £12.99.

I've tried a number of optical devices (including spectacles, I will add to pre-empt the wags out there)- but none really had the oomph I wanted.

Now I can see the exact layout of boats in a mooring area or basin from 600 yards away, giving me plenty of time to decide on the best available spot.

I can see who is standing beside their boat holding a rope (and likely perhaps to be moving or mooring soon), and who is just standing chatting. .

I believe Aldi is German-owned, right? They must be religiously opposed to making poor optics, even in cheap devices.

Crucially, I reckon I can see a red neckerchief and waistcoat cosplayer from 1000 yards.

Hey, I've always loved wearing waistcoats, just got a lovely leather one this week and yes I'll wear it when boating as it keeps me warm.

Cosplay not included lol 😆

Currently using the white version as it's just a nice refreshing summer tipple, the red is for cosy evenings with two fingers up to the world 😄

To be fair, I've been cosplaying as a boater for several years.

But the problem with the neckerchief lads is they become sexually aroused by vintage engines, instead of lithium batteries like a normal person.

Who wouldn't be, with all those pistons graphically moving up and down?

I think you're right about some of the blokes liking it, too..

They come out of the engine room looking guilty and furtive after the scheduled oil change (required every 90 minutes of running), and you think: did he spend a bit longer in there than he needed to..?

I'm just asking the questions.

You have answered the question twice and both times HAVE TOTALLY MISSED THE POINT,  you have not answered the question, try again :

Why does not wearing a helmet / seatbelt  make you a sociopathic killer and put other road users in danger ?

Would donning the helmet / seat belt stop the driver putting other road users in danger ?

I read the Machpoint005  post differently to you. You had mentioned four things. Machpoint referred to these as a, b, c & d.

He then said...

(c) for the irresponsible sociopath who would otherwise be maiming or killing other road users

So at (c) he was referring to the consequences of drink driving, not the consequences of not wearing seatbelts or crash helmets.

because modern cars are so light to handle it would be easy to cause an incedent through drink driving. In days of yore when cars were a bit of a handful, noisier, most family cars had no servo brakes, no PAS, they needed a bit of a work out by the intoxicated driver which often sobered them up in time to avoid an incedent.

Hang on.... Aldi?

I went in one once. It was full of unbelievably rude people. It was almost like being out on the canals.... ;)

Worth the struggle for the quality of the goods on offer. Nothing wrong with Toro Loco, and their own-brand stuff is indistinguishable from Marmite. Best teabags around, too, but unfortunately no leaf tea.

Sorry, but that is utter bollox. Just look at the death (and serious injury) statistics pre-breathalyser, and the number of cars on the road, and then look at the current statistics. Death rate well down, numbers of cars several times up.

In my part of the world it is not macho to wear a seatbelt so death rates are huge and mobile phone use is compulsory whether driving, cycling or motorcycling or walking, land of the zombies. A car lost control the other day by my place, 5 passengers, 2 dead, all early 20s.

Thanks. Just slightly proves my point, duntit?

If being macho means being dead, I'm a fully paid-up wimp.

All the more good stuff for us plebs.

Of course, if you prefer the sharp elbows of the superior knobs in Waitrose, fill yer boots.

Never experienced such a thing. You obviously never go in Waitrose.

I use Waitrose almost exclusively nowadays. Not just for the excellent quality of the food but for the good manners of the fellow punters.

There isn't one within two hours drive of us. Luckily there is a Sainsbury's.

Oops forgot to mention the good manners and friendliness of the staff too.

Unlike Asda and Aldi well, no staff there to interact with in the first place!

My heart bleeds for you. I'd move back to civilisation if I were you. Sainsbury's? One click above Tesco I'd say.

83 miles each way to the nearest Waitrose. Trouble with living somewhere nice is the shop choice is somewhat limited. There are some good proper local shops though.

Au contraire, and that's why I now avoid my local Waitrose. It is in "posh" Cheshire, of course, second only to Buckinghamshire in terms of its self-entitlement.

How far is it to somewhere really useful, like Screwfix?
