Just so that the northerners don't have the monopoly on irritating stoppages, Curdworth on the B&F has been shut due to low water levels.

The water supply apparently comes from the Tame Valley canal, which of course is shut because of the chemical spillage.

Plus there's an unidentified leak around lock 6 / 7.

That means our month long cruise plan to go and do the Ashby and Coventry arm didn't even survive us leaving the marina, the stoppage notice arrived.10 minutes before we left !

Plan B via Hatton I guess.

The leak was identified about a week ago when they put a stoppage on to try and seal it

Day 4 out of 14 of our holiday around the Warwickshire ring and I spot the CRT notification on this one.  We arrived at Hillmorton a couple of hours ago and are now re-evaluating things.  To Coventry then back via Hatton (again) Maybe on the cards, unless we get some new info from CRT in the next day or so.

Surely it’s supplied via the Birmingham main line and Farmers Bridge etc locks plus to a lesser extent the Grand Union via Camp Hill too? Given the relatively low use of Perry Barr I would have thought most water would be from the BCN main line?

I would press on personally. It’s the problem with getting stoppage notices though appreciate there are other views on that!

I did wonder why water couldn't be let down from the Birmingham level which can be topped up from Edgbaston reservoir.

Dunno, I'm only going by the info on the stoppage notice. As Brian said, they notified about the curdworth leak a few days ago and haven't got to the bottom of it yet, I'm not expecting a quick fix. Decision point is tomorrow lunchtime when we get to Kings Norton. We'll probably go down Hatton I think, that gives us plan B, Coventry and Ashby anti clockwise and then B&F if it's reopened or plan c to go up foxton and then back via Leicester, Fradley, S&W if it hasn't.

Hopefully it will be open again before you need to make the decision to turn around.  It is was shut, with 14 days it should be possible to go T&M, S&W, up Wolverhampton, across to Birmingham, and then North Stratford!

Thank you,  I will take a look st that as an option.  Hopefully it will reopen as one of our days was to be at Drayton Manor, which my daughter is/was looking forward to.

If we did have to retrace our steps it may be via Knowle to Birmingham then down that way.

Did they put the stoppage on the bottom gate, A few boaters had to back down last week

I don't know. The lower pounds definitely have normal water levels. Nothing new about those further up running low.

We'll we've gone on into Brum on the grounds that we can decide which way to go first thing tomorrow because according to the stoppage, CRT will be providing an update today.

Except it's now nearly 7pm and they haven't bothered. And I don't suppose they'll bother early tomorrow either, with it being Sunday. So based on the comments here we'll press on with our original plan and hope.

Wouldn't be so bad but the prime mooring spot in Brum was already taken by some dodgy looking boat with a Carling drinking owner.

So we should have stuck with a different plan!

Half way down farmers and the cyclists are telling us to turn around as there's no water after the bottom lock.

Phone CRT. Yep, fire bridge have pumped the canal dry at the top of the Aston level to fight a fire. Going to be several hours before there will be enough water there to move.

Their suggestion was to reverse back (from lock 12) if we wanted to move today !

At least he says they've found the leak at Curdworth.

Yep. The CRT emergency guys helping at farmers said they were sorted.

However we are now stuck at the next to bottom of farmers bridge. We've been running water down for 4 hours so far and I reckon we're still about a foot off being able to risk it. Level is increasing at about 1-2 inches an hour based on the photos I've taken of the brickwork so we won't move until 9. I'm not spending the night here as it's definitely NOT somewhere to stop, so we are about to go backwards all the way up the flight.

Guy in front of us tried getting out of lock 13 and got stuck on the bottom cill. We've flushed him out, but he can't now shut the bottom gate again as the level is too low and the gate is jamming.

Oh well, these things are sent to try us 😂
