Rioting would be the obvious response nowadays to CRT adding a small CC surcharge to the licence fee.

What's a "potential riot" anyway? Has anyone ever seen one or taken part in a potential riot? Sounds a lot safer than an actual riot!

So were there riots?  Almost everywhere else the anti-rioters vastly outnumbered the potential rioters.

What is the difference between rioters and anti-rioters

Anti rioters tend to be peaceful while rioters seem to be intent on smashing things - and people.

I think it was the rather stiff custodial sentences handed out that rather dampened the knucklehead's enthusiasm for trouble.

Welcome to the forum. I don't feed the trolls as a rule, but I'll pull up a chair and wait for someone else to come along and entertain that pile of nonsense. I must have missed the 'Triple Stabbing and Burning Fleet' headline on the evening news!

There were no riots in Gloucester around the time specified. It seems sad to have to lie through one’s teeth to seek attention. Maybe get a dog instead?

I thought new member posts had to be approved by a moderator so obviously someone on the site team thinks it's true.

From The BBC on 11 August 2024:

"For more than 24 hours on Wednesday there was speculation and rumours on social media of possible protests and disorder in Gloucester and Cheltenham.

Police officers were deployed, shops and businesses closed early, some pubs decided not to open and the producers of a theatre show cancelled it over safety fears.

In the end, there was nothing apart from the real world consequences of misinformation being spread widely online, with police saying the information it received was "third-hand rumour".

It's not (in general) the job of the Mods to verify the authenticity of a post. With some of the technical posts (for example LI batteries....) we'd never approve anything.

Instead, we (I'm one as well) rely on a casual glance "does it promote illegal activity?", "does it contain [banned!] swear words?", "is it obviously Spam?" etc.

In this case, we goofed; sorry, we are not perfect...

Wasn't the original report about "potential riots" though? I'm still not sure what one of those is. I might even have been involved in one without realising.

I missed the deleted post though. What did it say?

Just some rubbish about people running for their lives, boats burned to the waterline, mass looting, etc, etc.

It was an apparently fictional and graphic description of the supposed riot and the damage done written in the first person. If it had happened as described it would have been all over the news at the time, it was not, enough said.

Also, no need for apologies from Ade or any mod for letting it slip through. They do a pretty fair job for most of the time.

It very nearly happened in New York in 1984.
