I think some miserable old gits just can't go to bed until they've had a good moan about something! 😄

There are several on this forum.

What’s life without a good grumble and a moan?

Peaceful.

But then an all out rant is very calming.

An even better responses is to smile, wave, and accelerate vigorously!

Nah, full emergency astern alongside their boat, then smile and ask "Is that better?” if they've not already scuttled off.

There are circumstances when a heavier-than-water fender is helpful - like with the Shroppie shelf.

That was their only use.

We have similar fastening points, I put a soft shackle through one and set a spring from that when required.

We used the same arrangement.  I still have our soft shackles for extending our clothes line here.

...I'm sure I'm not the only person who's cruised in tick-over by a long line of moored boats (Golden Nook being one such place where this happened) chatting happily to occupants, exchanging salutations etc., to be then confronted by a resident bellowing 'slow down'.

Yes that's the chap did same to me in 2021 and I'm going back up to Chester next week - gulp!!

You could always smile sweetly and say "Oh dear, I'm sorry you seem to have problems with passing boats -- would you like some advice on how to moor up to prevent this?"... 😉

You could explain to him all about PM2.5 particles at the same time!

Why, does he have a woodburner and is moored in a town? If so, I'm sure he'd be happy to know he was personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent children... 😉

We were passing through Braunston where it is very narrow near Midland Chandlers and got a verbal volley for going to fast. My other half who was driving (!) said afterwards that she was in neutral and couldn't go any slower. Moose is heavy, travelled along Thames and is ballasted accordingly, all this before our time.

How do you go slowly, slow down yet steer as you have to in Braunston and not upset other boaters who may, or not  be reasonable in their comments.

My other half is at a loss to understand what she could do differently and is very careful not to create a bow wave at all times.

Given he seems not to understand about how to moor his boat, he is probably also unaware of the risks of PM2.5s in city centres and how thousands of innocent children are being killed by them.

Don't you think you should make him aware? Just like you do everyone on here?

You do know what /s at the end of a post means, don't you? 😉

I don't.

Unless it means /s (which seems to be meaningless) why do you not write it out in full ? Is it a norty word ?

Is it some facebook shorthand used by children ?

Go and look it up -- you could have done that in less time than it took you to write that post... 😉

A variation of speed criticism that I had last week from an angler fishing off his boat was "you're making an awful lot of splashing".

I suspect he is not conversant with the set up of raw water cooling as the only splash was from the exhaust with now bow wave or wash on the banks.

Unless you were taking a p*ss off the stern while steering... 😉

I like having a raw water cooling outlet in the side of the hull. Although it can be a bit embarrassing when you soak bystanders toes on the lockside, or worse if you are sharing a lock with a boat which has low set side doors...

If it is Giant Hogweed, not just Common Hogweed, I urge you to report it to CRT please. I'm sure they have a duty of care to remove hazardous plants where people might come into contact with them, and Giant Hogweed can have nasty effects lasting for years.

Just checked and they do want it reported:

I don't know or care. I thought it was just your poor typing ability.

Why should I have to go an look something up because of your inability to communicate in plain English ?

Because this is the Internet, and it has been a widely-used abbreviation on message boards and forums for many years?

Do you also shout loudly at foreigners in English instead of learning their language?

Get with it, daddio... 🙂

It's shorthand for "end of sarcasm", because / is the delimiter for the end of something in Internet-speak -- or http HTML (and other scripting languages) to be more precise... 😉

P.S. You do know what "http" "HTML" stands for, I assume? 🙂
