Hi Everyone.

I think my bow thruster battery requires replacement.   Is it best to replace it with a starter battery or leisure?  I'm thinking starter as it takes heavy current for short periods at infrequent intervals, however it gets linked to the domestic bank for charging when the domestic bank charge exceeds about 13.2v.

The current one's around 96Ah and (i think ) about 630CCA.

Thoughts welcome!

That battery is a bit small for any bow thruster.

You want to improve the CCA, make it a 120Ah, and improve the charging regime. Perhaps put a dedicated small solar panel so the battery is recharged after a cruise, not left at 80% which is what happens if you use it to moor up and turn the engine off.

Although if you use it to push you alongside, now you're sucking silt and debris from the edge through your thruster. Best not to do that for obvious reasons, and then you'll also leave your battery fully charged after you you moor up.

If you use it a lot or insist on mooring with it, then follow @matty40s sound advice above.
