If you are told to hide your boat from view...

I had a boat on  my front lawn which upset the site developer, he had upset me several times and mine was the first property turning onto the estate. I pointed out to him the covenant said no caravans to be stored at the front of the property, it didn't mention boats

Our house and the others in our road have  "no caravans" covenants anywhere on site. Our solicitor said this would have been added when the plot of land was sold to a developer, and carried over to the individual houses as they were built.  The reason was usually to prevent the original plot being used for hosting travelling fairs or gypsy encampments and the like which might have caused annoyance to the original seller if he was still living near the plot being sold.  The covenant did not apply to our campervan as it was not a caravan.

I know of several plots of land adjacent to the Thames which have restrictive covenants prohibiting erections.

I was discussing this with a learnèd friend recently and we were at odds as to whether a Boat could be an erection. I maintain the position that it may be but he was of the view that a Boat would not be an erection.

It interests me a little as one of my Boats currently occupies the water adjacent to a small plot of land which has a restrictive covenant prohibiting erections. It goes back a hundred yars and things have changed since then but it still piques my interest.

Can a Boat be an erection under the legal definition?

When David Hutchings was constructing the lock on the Avon at Stratford the steel piled sides started moving inwards, and Hutch had to put in the steel gantry frames that span the lock to this day. At the time they caused much consternation, and one elderly lady Councillor is said to have complained at a council meeting about "Mr. Hutchings' monstrous erection"!
