CRT advice to moor using centre line.

OK - so now I'm thinking of a length of carpet - say 6"-9" long - pile side out and wrapped tightly round the rope. Back to back over the rope with a couple of cable ties through to hold it in place.

Follow-up question - how do I explain the mysterious hole in the carpet to the wife ....?

Tell her that when she was sleepwalking she must have thought she was in the bathroom - she Peed on the carpet and you've had to cut out the area to get the smell out of the boat.

I had the same problem, there is a very simple solution!

I came to an agreement with my neighbour that we should swap mooring cleats so the line doesn't come straight down the side of the boat but is at an angle to the boat.

Very simple and worked for us.

I'd say the way to do it most effectively is to add a fixing point at gunwale level near the centre. Something like an anser pin I'm thinking. It would also give more flexibility for other awkward length moorings, and/or an easy point for spring lines that are out of the way of embarkation points.

If you have a rail, as we also have, just tie the rope to the rail?

Whilst boats are moored either side of the pontoon, tie the bows together and leave the centre line looser. I used to do this quite successfully with a neighbour.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Apologies for the delay - just back from the boat plus other diversions.

Tried a section of carpet - cut a piece from one of those sample pieces they leave outside carpet shops. As described above - fixed in place with cable ties. Weather reasonably still so maybe not a full test but not noise so far.

I'll report back if modification becomes necessary.
