Another interesting boat or two

I had a good chat with Edwin before I set off from Hawne basin last Thursday on my way north. He likes a chat.

He said that he designed Ferrous to sit level in the water but when he took her out for sea trials on the Dudley No 2 Sea Canal it displayed a tendency to nose dive which reduced the speed. After tests he found that ballasted for a 2" higher bow than stern produced the fastest speed and it was 0.25mph faster than his original design.

In relation to my plans he also told me had single handed Ferrous over all three trans-Pennine routes and the Huddersfield was the easiest, but he's had to give up single handing because he turns 80 this year.

He still put in a very credible effort on the BCN Challenge, albeit with his mates.
