He counts their legs and divides by 4

This may not be actually be correct.

Each human bean has, on average, slightly fewer than two legs if you think about it briefly. The same principle prolly applies to the sheeps.

Some 25+ years ago when we had the Farm in Wales, and following the Chenobyl disaster and the 'cloud' that came over Wales had made the grass radioactive many lambs were born with deformaties.

We had one lamb that was born with only three legs.

We had a French student who was studying Equine Management under SWMBOs tutelage, and one day, in her broken English asked :

"the sheep, only three, why ?"

SWMBO, had her 'naughty head' on and replied "well, when you get one as good as that, you do not eat it all at once" the student understood and was horrified - we never told her anything different.

A farmer tells his sheepdog to count the sheep in his field.

When the dog gets back the farmer says, "how many sheep do we have?"

The sheepdog replies, "20."

"I thought we had 17?" the farmer says.

"We do, but I rounded  them up." replied the dog.
