Narrowboat - Internal Surveillance System Suggestions

Hi

I need to keep an eye on what's going on inside my narrowboat as I steer it along. Does anyone use a video system of some type to do the same?

I'm thinking along the lines of baby monitors. Many surveillance cameras rely on access to wi-fi which I don't have on board. I would hope to power any device from a 12v supply.

I'm interested to read the suggestions.

I personally use Amazon Blink camera's - they are small battery units, with a controller running from 5v usb, but they do need a wifi connection to access them from a phone....

So a bit more information about the requirements might be a good idea?

The OP has asked rather a vague question, unless you have inside information nobody else is aware of.

(Unless of course it is one of your usual late evening attacks on MtB..)

The OP has asked a very simple question, why does anybody need to know the specifics of why they need to see inside their boat whilst cruising?

 

Its typical of MTB to suggest it might be an April Fool when its nothing of the sort.

 

I will call out his posts as such as I see fit, day or late at night.

 

He does it often.

If more information is needed surely the best way to suggest this is to ask for it is to say

 

'Could the forum have some more info. about your requirements and what you need to see inside your boat'

 

Rather than some utterly silly comment suggesting its an April fool?

Thanks to those who took my request at face value and made useful suggestions. The reason why I need to keep an eye on someone inside the boat while I'm tied to the tiller is personal and private but is real and may determine whether I can continue boating.

Rather than messing with wireless cameras, phones & apps etc why not just use a car reversing camera kit

 

They are already 12v (and designed for automotive use so 14v while charging should be fine)

What a great idea. There is one on Amazon with a 15m extension cable. Obviously routing the cable might be a problem, and there may be a limit to how far the cable could be extended.

 

ETA Looks like there are some truck ones with 65ft cable.

 

ETAA Looks like they do wireless ones too.

Yes, it does look like a great idea which I'll investigate. The price of electronic stuff these days is unbelievable (cheap!).

Wireless rear view cameras are common on motorhomes but they tend to be a bit pricier than wired ones.

A Nextbase car dash cam would do the job as well, mine can have internal and rear cameras added

The V380 IP cameras can be accessed (according to the manual) via an AP link which doesnt need a wifi network. 

You would need the V380 app on an Apple or Android phone/tablet to view.
