Narrowboat - Internal Surveillance System Suggestions

Bugsworth Tippler

Featured Posts

Hi

I need to keep an eye on what's going on inside my narrowboat as I steer it along. Does anyone use a video system of some type to do the same?

I'm thinking along the lines of baby monitors. Many surveillance cameras rely on access to wi-fi which I don't have on board. I would hope to power any device from a 12v supply.

I'm interested to read the suggestions.

Regards
Ian

Have a look at 12v video camping baby monitors.

Pet? Person with carer needs?

Or even, does it matter and wtf has it got to do with you?

So a bit more information about the requirements might be a good idea?

The OP has asked rather a vague question, unless you have inside information nobody else is aware of.

(Unless of course it is one of your usual late evening attacks on MtB..)

The OP has asked a very simple question, why does anybody need to know the specifics of why they need to see inside their boat whilst cruising?

Its typical of MTB to suggest it might be an April Fool when its nothing of the sort.

I will call out his posts as such as I see fit, day or late at night.

He does it often.

Yeah, that would cover it ...

Interesting, you too think its OK to mock somebody posting on here as an April fool?

Pathetic.

If more information is needed surely the best way to suggest this is to ask for it is to say

'Could the forum have some more info. about your requirements and what you need to see inside your boat'

Rather than some utterly silly comment suggesting its an April fool?

No Martin, that's all in your head. Again.

I was simply agreeing with Matty that this was yet another of your attacks on Mike, and I fully expected you to sulk about my comment.

I couldn't agree more, but I think you're ranting at the mirror...

Strange.

Id never previously had you down as one of the forum knob eds....

Mtb gets as good as he gives.

But as we are here what exactly do you think 'just checking the date' meant then?

Oh, I've had you down as the clear leader for years .... Even TWC makes sense occasionally!

You're fine until about 10pm , then it all goes horribly wrong.

Oh you added a bit.

You get argumentative at exactly the same time, which would suggest what?

Exactly?

Thanks to those who took my request at face value and made useful suggestions. The reason why I need to keep an eye on someone inside the boat while I'm tied to the tiller is personal and private but is real and may determine whether I can continue boating.

Rather than messing with wireless cameras, phones & apps etc why not just use a car reversing camera kit

They are already 12v (and designed for automotive use so 14v while charging should be fine)

something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134331578228

What a great idea. There is one on Amazon with a 15m extension cable. Obviously routing the cable might be a problem, and there may be a limit to how far the cable could be extended.

ETA Looks like there are some truck ones with 65ft cable.

ETAA Looks like they do wireless ones too.

Yes, it does look like a great idea which I'll investigate. The price of electronic stuff these days is unbelievable (cheap!).

Thanks for suggestion.

Wireless rear view cameras are common on motorhomes but they tend to be a bit pricier than wired ones.

Eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Wireless-Reversing-TFT-LCD-Hatchback/dp/B07RL5NJSB/ref=asc_df_B07RL5NJSB/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=256125864900&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7564145690074042629&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045564&hvtargid=pla-744226647340&psc=1
