From the article:

George Ward is described as having mental health issues and being a “suicide risk” by Nick Brown, a National Bargee Travellers Association caseworker who has supported him through legal proceedings since 2010.

Mr Ward, 62, has been ordered by a Bristol County Court judge to obtain licences for his two workboats, The Celtic and the March Hare, by 4pm on Thursday, March 23.

To achieve that, he also needs boat safety certificates and insurance.

People who are a suicide risk should be excused having a safety certificate and a license. Discuss.

Leave him to it.

One less to worry about.

What's the problem he is only going to set fire to his fork !

A vulnerable man facing eviction from the Kennet & Avon Canal has threatened to barricade himself on board his workboat armed with a garden fork and then set fire to it.

And is it the same Nick Brown whose boat was CMing on Devizes Wharf for five years? Dunno if it's still there now.

I'm not entirely sure CRT need to evict his boat. Nature appears to be doing a reasonably good job of it.

I bet George will get away with it, he has been getting away with it for years.

Rather than claiming to be a suicide risk I think a better defence would be that he has been breaking the rules for so long that he must have grandfathers rights to rule breaking. 😀

Wait until you see what's happened in Plymouth😱 The leader of the council has used delegated powers to blitz the trees in the city centre. I hope for his sake he has followed all the rules to the letter otherwise he is going to get a new one.

It's about time the CRT removed his boat  He's taking the pi##

I agree. We find it very uncomfortable to walk the muddy towpath hereabouts. Our boat is insured, licensed and safety certificated.

It is 2 'boats' and a lot of tow path rubbish at present.

The wooden wreck will never burn as it is totally water logged!

Hopefully he will get done for burning unseasoned wood

It might....he plans on using a lot of petrol. Quote from the article:

“I will go and buy 40 gallons of petrol and when they turn up I will set fire to everything and myself and the boat. The lot,” he said.

He is certainly highly skilled at manipulating the bleeding heart brigade and the media, with his general attitude to any attempt to persuade him to abide by the rules. This is a great example.

He is presumably banking on getting advanced notice of "they" turning up.

I can see why getting a BSS might be a problem...

Wouldn't feel safe setting fire to my fork on that!
