Can we have the "badges" as an option, please?

I rarely step out of the 'History & Heritage' pages, but this 'badge' annotation I see as a complete nonsense. It matches a 'badge' to numbers of postings only. This has no reflection on the knowledge that many have. An example: Chris M Jones is an accomplished historian and artist contributing to Narrowboat magazine with art and articles, yet he is 'badge' ranked "Enthusiast" - 4/12. This is an insult.

Yet I have a 'badge' of 'Grand Master'. I haven't boated for decades!

As an aside - I show as

My brother (better known as Magpie Patrick) shows as

There is no way on this earth that I have a higher reputation than him - (unless on Schottky diodes or the finer points of VHF radio licence)

I don't think moderators can receive reputation points.

I suspect the problem is, even if this 'feature' is turned off or hidden, the next forum software update will wipe out any customisation to the underlying files and reinstate it. It would be tedious to do it every forum update. So we're stuck with what the Americans at Invision think is best.

But you are probably correct...

It is not based solely on post count..

I agree, it has no reflection on knowledge though.

Isn't it?

A better metric which doesn't penalise the less prolific posters would be the ratio of greenies to posts.

Still not perfect though, as playing to the crowd tends to garner large numbers of greenies while carefully thought out technical posts often get none.

Oh yeah!!

Thanks, I totally missed that.

So given all that, its hard to work out (given the rubbish I post) why I've been labelled a grand master.

Hey, we're all grand masters here. Of what, I'm far from certain.

I've been trying to work this out too. Haven't got to the bottom of it yet.

I'm a founder member of the "Talking Bollocks" club along with DMR. It now appears to have been the inspiration for the Grand Master badge here.

We are looking for new members. Interested?
