Rick Cooper off Auriga

Hopefully the rumour is wrong. I haven't spoken to him since the Alvecote boat gathering, when he had dislocated his shoulder, and as TM says he had only started his fuel and coal runs last Wednesday.

The posting was on his facebook page from his son

Just seen a FB post from his son apparently Rick Cooper off coal boat Auriga has passed away.

He had just started a new coal run after a long time recovering from a shoulder injury

Its been a bad week. Of our small community over here ( not boats ) one of our pub regulars was having a beer  on tuesday evening, fit as a fiddle, he died in the shower next morning. Another local, a friend of the missus died the following day. Both totaly out of the blue and unexpected, both only babies aged 57 😒

Great guy, passed him many a time when moving boats, especially in Winter.

This does leave the major issue of who is going to dredge the bridge by the lengthsmans house on Brookhay Lane near to Fradley now...Rick could plough through there fully loaded without missing a beat, something I have never managed on any boat I have moved!

Bloody awful bridge hole.  I have tried hammering in and shutting off, creeping up on it, just going along normally and all the variations I can think of.  None prevent me being stopped in the bridge with a bladeful of leaves, twigs and arterial cr@p.
