Orwellian
BBC Look North has just reported that the West Yorkshire Combined Authority has shelved indefinitely the £3 million scheme to create an inland port in Leeds. This just as CRT is spending circa £500K on dredging the Aire & Calder to enable freight vessel movement to Leeds.

LadyG
Let's hope the CRT heard the jungle drums. Though £3M is not a lot of money considering the wealth generated locally Edited December 5, 2022 by LadyG

This just as CRT is spending circa £500K on dredging the Aire & Calder to enable freight vessel movement to Leeds. This was announced on 4th November in the local press. The project had been paused anyway due to the higher than expected cost of the wharf and site facilities but a recent appraisal had reduced it such that it might be eligible for funding from other sources. It will be interesting to see if the two aggregate/recycling companies competing for the site will just fund the wharf anyway. The dredging was nothing to do with this project and was to enable craft to navigate to the original 'inland port' at Knostrop fully loaded. A little more needs to be done to achieve this (below Woodlesford and below Lemonroyd) and there are plans to expand the operation at Knostrop regardless of what happens at Stourton. yorky1
Didn't fish become the priority even dead ones? Here we are on the A&C Wakefield branch waiting 2 weeks for divers to look at a failed sluice at Woodnook. Just as well there's no commerce here!
