It's O.K., the article mentions that it was released back into the lake and didn't end up on a few local families' dinner tables. As it's in France, it can count itself lucky.

It’s worth much too much alive. Carp fishermen pay truly stupid amounts to fish for big carp in France.

You are not wrong there. 

Seem to  remember a narrowboat fitted with tanks that got caught poaching them from  somewhere and then selling them to another fishery somewhere else.

Over 10 years ago I used to deliver to a work team in Southampton two of whom were mad/keen carp anglers who told me they would happily pay around €1000 a week each to fish a lake in France where there were big carp. All they wanted in the way of services was a shower and toilet block as they slept in tents.
