Probably complete horlicks but I suspect water is the culprit. Produces the intermittent poor combustion, white smoke and the crackling is it boiling off. Fire away 😄

Nope, you're spot on. Fuel when dosing pump run disconnected from heater looked like milk, and was obviously 95% water. Purged the water from the line and the (new!) appliance which also initially would not start, ran like a dream!

I have found it already!

 

Its in the tank on the other end of the pipe, I reckon. 

 

Next question bothering me is whether there is any diesel bug in there, and what to dose the tank with just to make sure. Is Marine 16 still the 'go to' treatment for suspected deezulbug?

 

Oh and where to buy the agglomerator I obviously need. ASAP I guess....

Yes I think they sell them - just checked and yes they do, but will set you back £300+
