We are looking for narrowboat insurance for a 3 year old, 57ft,

owner fitout. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've been with "Nautical Insurance" of Leigh on Sea for at least 15 years. I'd highly recommend them. They paid up within a couple of days when I bent my prop and needed a couple of drydockings to sort it.

GJW have a reputation for paying out on claims.

Fair, comprehensive policy including contents. I've been with them over 20 years both as a livaboard and recreational boater.

Depends whether you need comprehensive or just third party. I've been with basic boat for twenty years,  3rd party which includes recovery if the damn thing sinks. If you're living on, you obviously need fully comp. Otherwise, it may be worth thinking about.

We've been with Nautical for 10 years and they are excellent. In June I had to be dry docked when the tiller mechanism broke after striking a submerged object. The claims process was easy and straightforward and they paid up within a week. Also when getting additional cover for some of the tidal waters such as the Severn Estuary their charges have always been very reasonable.

Another vote for CraftInsure.

Been with them for 12 years now.  Everything done online and very simple and clear.

Premiums are highly competitive.

Had one large claim a couple of years ago, and they paid out very fairly. (Over £6K).

GJW also give you basic Canal & River Rescue cover in with it.. you can upgrade it if you want also.....

Do you know what you actually get from CRR.
You may well find you get more than you expect from CRR.
One trick is to offer one thing then you find that in order to take it up something new (£) pops up that you are not expecting but they were!

it’s a £50 call-out fee for RCR with GJW.

Irrelevant for me as I wouldn't let the cowboys near my boat. 🤭

Thats a bit unfair, some RCR call out people are decent fellow boat owners. Was with a friend who called them out and you would be surprised at the boats they own or co-own sometimes lauded on here.

CRAFTINSURE

Just had a renewal notice, up from £12pcm to £17.59 , so I'll be paying back the £600 they paid out  in about 100 months. I reckon it's still a win.

What is a "prc" ?

I know what a "pcm" and a "pa" is but struggling to work out a prc.

(I doubt it's 'Precast Reinforced Concrete' or 'Peoples Republic of China')

Thats interesting i have not had any notification.

Is your rise because of a claim?

If it is it is still, as you say, a good deal
