Vistula -Split Canal

Poland has completed in September, or a least opened a new canal link from the Baltic to avoid Russian waters. The project has been on going since 2019 and has been the target of adverse publicity generated in Russia, This barrage of disinformation makes the HS 2 protesters look like amateurs and yet credit must be given to the Poles for building this new short section of waterway.

I did a search for various spellings before the post, but did not see anything relevant. However this post is more about an engineering achievement building a new commercial waterways link

The major works included-

·         Construction of the breakwater, forebay on the Gdańsk Bay side, using 10,000 concrete blocks

·         Construction of the shipping channel together with all its infrastructure, including locks

·         New roads and two swing bridges

·         Construction of an artificial island in the Vistula Lagoon.

Perhaps there are those wishing to comment on the opening of a brand new canal in 2022 !

Is there also a lock? There is what appears to be a gate between the two bridges?

Russian objections couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that the only natural opening in the bar is in their territory now could it - surely not....

It gives better access to the port of Elblag, so they may have to enlarge the canal and inclines which run south from there into the old Prussian Oberland area to encourage more trade. The Russian enclave around Kaliningrad had some early waterways when it was Prussia's second city, based around the old Memel river. These include the uncompleted Adolf Hitler Canal, under construction during the 2WW to create a link into the Masurian lakes. The Poles have built canals to avoid Russian territory before, such as the 19th century Augustow and Beresina Canals.
