Two pack BITUMEN blacking

Featured Posts

Just been getting quotes for blacking and I've had a quote for two pack bitumen. NOT Epoxy so not requiring  grit blasting and suitable to go over existing bitumen based blacking

The main advantage seems to be that it cures chemically and therefore a bit quicker and the yard will put 3 coats on. They aren't claiming it will last any longer or making any other snake oil claims. Although  they say in their opinion it makes a better job for not much extra (about 200 quid more).

Just wondered if anyone else had knowledge of two pack bitumen ?

TIA

I can find no references to 2 pack bitumen, nor have I ever heard of it.

What is the product  name and manufacturer?

I didn't get the name he did say they used intertuf I think.

A quick Google suggests jotun do a 2 pack bitumen.

2 pack paint is so named because it consists of 2 separate chemicals, which once mixed (ie a paint and a hardener), chemically react to harden and provide a protected surface. That's why products such as Interzone 954 exist, and can be painted and harden underwater - it doesn't rely on a solvent to evaporate. Bitumen based paints are always solvent based.

My guess is he probably meant "2 pack blacking" but there is a misunderstanding along the way somewhere.

Possibly - the quote specifically says 2 pack bitumen and we had a conversation about the current blacking (rylard).

Guess I will have to check for the brand name / type. Its a reputable yard so I don't think there is any skull duggery, but want to know what the pros/cons are.
