When I had my narrowboat (sigh) I used a sheet of thin aluminium and put nuts on the back of the screws to give a bit of seperation from the woodwork.

Looked a bit naff, but worked.

 And it allowed any heated air to rise up the gap, drawing cooler air in from below.

Summer 2021 I had to remove a section of wall panels under the gunnel prior to welding to investigate what lay behind in way of insulation. 

Just happens to be a stretch by the stove.

Still ain’t replaced the panels and had no problem through last winter with cold or condensation.

The intention is to leave this short section of the interior exposed and make a feature of the riveted iron hull.
