Any recommendations for boat painters on or near the Trent & Mersey?

Hi all,

 

We are looking to get our 60' boat painted. We are based on the Trent & Mersey, but are willing to travel a bit for the right job. Anyone have any recommendations?

 

Really want the job done properly, ideally with some kind or guarantee. Have heard a few horror stories so want to be careful!

 

Also, whats is the general view about painting in a wet dock vs a dry?

 The T&M is a long canal, your approaching the Winter which is not the best time to travel with planned stoppages and not the best time to paint outside. So maybe giving a more precise location would be helpful for recommendations.

Most good painters have waiting lists you know. So doubt he will be getting it painted straight away

Any good painter will probably be booking for 2024 now as most have a good years booking ahead.  Try Kevin Dickinson at Fradley Junction, I think he advertised in Towpath Talk or I can PM you his number.

I have heard recommendations of the Paint Shed at Anderton but not used them personally

Our boat is currently in with Graham Ford, Cherilton Narrowboats at the start of the Erewash. He painted my friend's Dutch barge and was highly recommended. We booked our slot a year ago.

Thse folks did ours, but they normally have a 18 + month waiting list as they do a good job at a fair price.

If the Coventry Canal is convenient for you, I would suggest either Norton Canes or Alvecote Marina. I've watched the painters at both yards working and they both do a thorough job.

Trent Valley Marine at Aston Marina T&M. They have an out of the water heated building. Had mine back to metal painted 8 years ago, very pleased, still looking great.

..not sure about good ones, but I would not recommend "Oxon Boat painters"...no guarantee, paint starts to peel after 3 months, (probably because they painted it in an unheated polly tunnel over Winter)...

I can strongly recommenf John Sanderson at Dadfords Wharf Stourbridge https://www.narrowboatpainting.co.uk/   Not on the T & M, but not too far away. John did an excellent job on Helvetia which still looks shiney after ten years.
